Palm Bay began in the late 1880s as a settlement called Tillman at the mouth of Turkey Creek. Residents adopted the Palm Bay name in 1925, and it was incorporated as a city in 1960. At roughly 98 square miles, it covers the largest land area of any city in Brevard County. Its best-known natural spot is Turkey Creek Sanctuary, which has about 1.25 miles of boardwalk and the Margaret Hames Nature Center.
