Heavy overnight rainfall pushed more water into the City’s wastewater system than it can handle. Flows from the Osprey Water Reclamation Facility to the Blue Heron Water Reclamation Facility have reached full capacity.
City utility staff used every available operational option to manage the extra flow. Those options are now exhausted. To keep wastewater from backing up into homes, businesses and streets, the City began a controlled release of treated reclaimed water from the Osprey facility at approximately 6:30am on November 2, 2026. The water is flowing into the Indian River Lagoon near the Osprey WRF.
The released water is not raw sewage. It has gone through the facility’s full treatment process, including filtration and disinfection, before discharge.
