Titusville traces its start to 1867, when Col. Henry T. Titus settled at Sand Point on the Indian River; the town took his name in 1873, reportedly after a dominoes match, and incorporated in 1887. Lying between the St. Johns River and the Indian River Lagoon, the city is a gateway to the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge, Canaveral National Seashore and Kennedy Space Center, and it bills itself as a prime spot for watching rocket launches. Space View Park, home of the U.S. Spacewalk of Fame, sits on its downtown waterfront.
