Palm Bay officials are urging residents to stay off the roads after significant flooding left many streets across the city unsafe for travel, according to a Citizen Hotline update the city issued late Monday, Nov. 2.

The city said floodwaters may be deeper than they appear and conditions can change rapidly. Residents were asked to remain indoors, avoid unnecessary travel and never drive or walk through flooded roadways until an official all-clear is given.

City offices closed Tuesday. Palm Bay's non-essential offices and services, including City Hall, are closed Tuesday, Nov. 3.

Schools closed. Brevard Public Schools are also closed Tuesday, Nov. 3, the city said.

Trash and recycling changes. Republic Services is assessing flooding conditions after the heavy rainfall:

  • Customers whose regular collection day was Monday, Nov. 2, will next be collected Thursday, Nov. 5. Keep carts secured until then.
  • Tuesday, Nov. 3, customers should put carts at the curb only if it is safe and their street is not flooded. Republic Services planned to check road conditions early Tuesday, and a delayed start may be needed because of standing water and limited visibility.

Residents should not place carts in flooded areas or enter floodwater to move them.

The city asked residents to keep monitoring official City of Palm Bay channels for updates on road conditions and services.
