The Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) presented a $57.5 million check to the City of Cocoa and the Space Coast Transportation Planning Organization (TPO) today, October 6, marking a historic milestone for the future Cocoa Multimodal Station.

The event brought together federal, state and local leaders and project partners to celebrate the investment in passenger rail on the Space Coast. Speakers included FRA Administrator David Armstrong Fink; U.S. Rep. Mike Haridopolos, Florida’s 8th Congressional District; Florida Department of Transportation Secretary Jared W. Perdue, P.E.; Brightline Florida Chief Executive Officer Patrick Goddard; and Cocoa Mayor Michael C. Blake.

The Cocoa Multimodal Station was the only station project in the nation selected for funding through this federal award. The project is expected to generate up to $350 million in economic activity and support approximately 3,500 jobs in Cocoa.

With aviation, highways, a spaceport and a cruise port already connecting the region, the Cocoa Multimodal Station will add passenger rail to the Space Coast’s growing transportation network.

The City of Cocoa thanks the Federal Railroad Administration, Congressman Mike Haridopolos, Space Coast TPO, Brevard County, Brightline and all project partners for helping make this historic investment in Cocoa and the Space Coast possible.
