About Merritt Island · Community guideBrevard County guide →
Merritt Island is a large unincorporated community in central Brevard County, counted by the Census Bureau at about 34,500 residents in 2020, and is represented mainly through County Commission District 2. The county maintains many parks there, including Kiwanis Island Park, Veterans Memorial Park with the Brevard Veterans Memorial Center, and Rotary Park, whose nature center sits beside an 1,800-foot boardwalk through native habitat. A county redevelopment agency, whose board the County Commission created in 1988, supports reinvestment in the community.
